Oop. Whenever I’m at ease, I just end up with a pep in my step~?

I’m just way too glad to set foot on the ground again after being sequestered up in the sky for a whole month.

The MEGASPHERE was absolutely hu-mungous, and it’s not like there was a huge difference between living up there and here, but yeah, sure enough, I just couldn’t ease into it~

The open skies have been a place humans have longed for since the beginning of time, but naturally you’re going to start pining and pining for solid ground after being up there for a month.

Humans didn’t evolve to have wings for a reason, I guess.

Yep. I feel like I really get the essence of the theory of evolution now! Thanks, Darwin!

And the earth welcomes humans back too! Look. If I push my ear against the ground, I can hear the earth trembling with delight—

Huh? Wait, it really is shaking a little.

An earthquake? It… doesn’t seem like it. I wonder if there’s something somewhere else that this vibration is carrying over from…?

At the stage.

Ah, could you bring those cables over this way? And could you please take that speaker over there?

Sora’s feeling pretty great about it all ♪ We’ll be able to do a lot with this stuff~

Ooh. And a huge stage appeared before I knew it…! So all those vibrations were coming from all of the set-up here?

Good day, Sengoku-senpai! Harukawa-senpai! You’re putting together quite a grand stage, hm~?

Hm? Ahh, Esu-kun. Good day to you!

Good day, Esu-chan!

There’s a DreFes next week here in the school, so we’re in the middle of the preparation stages for that. This one is classified as an S1.

S1? M~nn, I was a pretty big shut-in and I didn’t really come to school for a year, so I still haven’t memorized all the different classifications.

They’re pretty complicated~ And the new terminology hasn’t caught on with people yet, so I feel like that makes it even more confusing.

Shinobu-chan, let’s try this out soon.

Ah. Right.

? Are you doing something right now?

Yep! Sora is coloring this stage with his magic ☆

Huh!? Magic!?

The kind of magic that has swayed so many people behind all ages, religions, histories and politics? Well, it’s not like I’ve ever seen it before, but…

I can’t believe today is the day I get to bear witness to such a historical moment!

Wait, hold on. He’s calling it magic, but it’s really just stage production, or like, special effects.

Switch’s stage direction is truly on a whole other level, though. Harukawa-kun is helping with the stage direction for this upcoming DreFes.

We’re running this rehearsal to decide which staging we’re going to use and make sure it works right during the actual performance.

I see~ It sucks that it’s not actual magic, but it still seems pretty interesting, so I’ll stay and watch and learn too.

Well, here Sora goes. Feast your eyes on the magic that was passed down to Sora by his Master and Grandmaster~1 Abracadabra..♪2

…!?

Huh? Are you telling me this isn’t real magic!?

Sure, stuff like pillars of flames and fireworks are common, but there’s blue balls of flame floating buoyantly around Harukawa-senpai too!? Are you actually a descendent of youkai?

Isn’t it amazing? I don’t really know how it works myself.

HaHa~ It’s not over yet! Here comes Sora’s newest work~ Alakazam~... ♪2

(Coughing) ! —- (Cough, cough)! Wh— White smoke is billowing out from the floor of the stage… (Cough)!

Huh!? The smoke is pooling together and ascending into the sky in the shape of a ginormous dragon!?

That’s ama~zing! I’m so fiercely moved right now! That settles it! This is definitely magic! Magic is real and alive on this earth!

Hm~mn… There’s a little too much smoke, huh~ We might get complaints from the surrounding neighborhood if they get worried about there being a fire, so I’m going to have to say no to this effect.

Wait, how can you be so calm!? A normal first reaction would be astonishment or awe, wouldn’t it!?

I was super impressed the first time I saw it, but I’ve seen Harukawa-kun’s magic in DreFeses time and time again, so I’ve gotten kind of used to them~

Besides, fulfilling my responsibilities as a student council member takes priority. I have to observe all staging thoroughly to make sure its capable of student council approval.

Ahh, I see. Harukawa-senpai’s magic was so astounding, I almost forgot this was a rehearsal for a DreFes.

And so because DreFes are under the student council’s jurisdiction, that’s why you’re here. Are you in charge of planning all the lives, Sengoku-senpai?

No, no. I’m the treasurer,3 but the student council doesn’t really have the manpower at the moment, so… it’s all hands on deck for us to run this live.

(A sigh) That sure sounds real hard, huh?

Well, it’s definitely hard, but that’s what makes it feel worth doing too~

Being able to see the behind-the-scenes work, and getting to do things you wouldn’t normally get to experience… There’s a lot I think is interesting and fun about it.

Ooh…! When you put it like that, it really tickles my sense of curiosity and adventure. I love stuff that gets the blood pumping as well!

Oh-ho. If that’s the case, you’d definitely be a good fit for the student council, Esu-kun~

If that’s something you end up interested in, please feel free to come by the student council room!

Yessir! When that time comes, I’m looking forward to working with you…♪

Translation Notes

  1. Shishou (師匠 lit. master) is an honorific for someone who has mastered a craft. If -shishou means "master", -daishishou (-大師匠) means "grandmaster". Sora is talking about Natsume and Wataru here.
  2. Originally, these were (in order) ちちんぷいぷい (chichinpuipui) and あぶらかたぶら (abracadabra). Chichinpuipui is a cutesy "magic spell" parents use when their kid gets hurt, used in combination with 痛いの痛いの飛んでいけ (pain, pain, go away). I localized these two so the first one becomes "abracadabra" and the second one is "alakazam".
  3. This is likely an error; Shinobu is the secretary of the student council in his third year.
